Celebrating Our Carers: Meet the Winners of Our Carers Week Competition!
Table of contents

We believe carers deserve recognition every single day — but Carers Week gives us a special opportunity to say an extra big thank you.

Whether you care for a loved one, a friend, or someone in your community, your dedication makes an enormous difference.

Our Carers Week competition was about shining a light on the people who go above and beyond, often quietly, to support others.

The entries we received were filled with kindness, resilience, and love — and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate our winners and their stories below.

Lisa W.

Nominated: Monique J.

Monique has cared for me for over 10 years and never asked for anything. She is not a paid carer, she is a friend. She assists me with pneumatic compression pumps for my legs daily, to help me with walking and she assists with all other household duties. She has been my angel and l am blessed to have her in my life.

Nicole R.

Self-nominated

For the first time in my life, I would like to confidently nominate myself. I have an ASD/ADHD son and ADHD daughter. Between them, the care never stops! Night and day. In 7.5 years I've not slept a full night. All of my time and energy is primarily spent on them, but the love I feel is worth it!

Philippe S.

Nominated: Sebastien S.

Sebastien has been patient and understanding with Remy who has ASD, anxiety and sensory disorder. Sebastien goes and talks to Remy when he feels distressed. He supports him with play and leads fun games to help Remy move out of bad thoughts or frustration. Amazing de-escalation skills! Thank you!

Christa M.

Nominated: Leissa C.

My mum is truly special. For over 30 years she has cared for my sister, who has a rare genetic condition, while also building Gold Coast Community Lifestyles, a not-for-profit disability support service that has helped countless families for over 25 years.

John H.

Nominated: Mirella D.G.

Mirella provides both high level care and friendship to my wife Di who suffers from dementia, enhancing self-respect by making her feel like a normal person. It is heartwarming to see Di greet Mirella with a hug and to be so animated in her company. A gem!

A Heartfelt Thank You to All Who Care 💙

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to enter, share their stories, and celebrate the incredible carers in their lives.

Every nomination was a reminder of just how powerful care, kindness, and community can be.

While our competition has ended, our appreciation for carers continues every day — because caring never stops, and neither does our gratitude.
