Are You Paying Too Much
For Continence Management?
Most aged care and disability care organisations spend far too much of their budgets on continence management products. Some suppliers will recommend restrictive long term supply contracts, complicated management procedures or even more expensive product as the best ways to save money. You don't need any of these. These are our favourite tips to reduce your spend - and they're easily achieved.
Our Top 5 Easy Budget Saving Tips
Tip #1
Be Reasonable With Absorbency
Typically the higher the absorbency, the higher the price, so don't waste money on products that have absorbencies far in excess of their practical use cases. If someone is changing 3 times a day, their urine output between each change is unlikely to exceed 800mL. Properly fitted products that are capable of holding far more than 1 litre are unnecessary in these cases.
Tip #2
Choose Good Skin Health
Ensure a regime of skin health management. Avoid the psychological trap of changing less often because you've spent a lot on the product. It will cost you more in the long run.
Tip #3
Achieve Invisibility
The primary objective of a good continence management product is to be out of sight and out of mind so that the user can live their life to the fullest possible extent without a constant reminder. It is essential therefore to be soft and comfortable, have good odour control, premium SAP absorbency materials and have a quality fit to avoid leaks. If the user is constantly reminded through smell, irritation or wetness then the product has failed them, and engaging them in group activities or social interaction becomes increasingly difficult. You will end up spending too much on individual engagement.
Tip #4
Avoid High Brand-Tax
Celebrities, sponsorships and prime-time advertising cost money that needs to come from somewhere. Choose suppliers that have good products and low overheads.
Tip #5
Ensure Responsive Supply
Choose suppliers that are nimble and responsive to your needs. If you're ordering from a supplier that has delivery lead time of weeks or an ordering process that takes days for processing, then you could be paying too much in on-site storage and order administration. Choose suppliers that have good ordering systems and can ship the same-day an order is placed.
