Meet Our 2023 Carer of the Year Winners!

In honour of National Carers Week, allow us to introduce you to some of the incredible carers in our ConfidenceClub community.

Every year, in honour of National Carers Week (October 15-21), we ask our wonderful community to nominate themselves or someone they know for our ConfidenceClub Carer of the Year Awards.

This year we were again inundated with the most inspiring, heartfelt stories of carers from around the country - from those caring for their family members, to aged care workers and many others. We feel honoured that our customers wanted to share their personal experiences with us, so we sincerely thank all of you who took the time to enter.

We had the difficult task of selecting just five winners out of hundreds of entries, but in our eyes, every carer is Carer of the Year!

But without further ado, let us introduce the 5 winners of our Carer of the Year Awards for 2023!

Peter, 57
Cares for his mum

“Peter battles with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He must manage his illness, so that he can be well enough to care for our elderly mother Stella, 83. She battles serious incontinence daily. She also has mobility issues and needs a walking frame around the house at all times. Peter has sacrificed his social life to look after our mother.”

Robert, 62
Cares for his mum

“Robert has been caring for Mum for 14 and a half years now. Prior to that he was providing care to our father as well in his last months of life. Robert has given up so much to support Mum to stay at home for as long as possible. His only income since caring for Mum has been his carers payment.”

Georgia, 18
Cares for her sister

“Georgia has set aside everything she does to make sure she is there to care for her sister and get her to therapies as well as teaching her so much at home. Georgia only works a couple hours a week so she can look after her sister.”

Esther, 59
Paid carer

“Esther has been a carer for over 30 years. She has cared for her elderly parents and her in-laws for years. A qualified nurse herself Esther has been a great advocate for the homeless, the elderly, mentally, and the physically challenged. [She is] always going out of her way to bring light into their dark world.”

Samantha, 48
Cares for her mum

“My mum's 82. She's had a few falls so needs to use a walker at all times. She's had a heart condition and heart valve replacement surgery, and also has early onset Parkinsons. I live with her so I can help her with everything from housework and cooking, to taking her to appointments and making sure she takes her medications. I don't know if I deserve the win, but I do know that I put my entire being in making sure Mum is cared for to the point it's who I am now.”

We would like to take this opportunity to salute all the carers out there for their commitment and dedication to making sure so many of us can continue to live with dignity and confidence.
